Our harissa blend is a spicy and exciting blend of mouthwatering flavours from Africa. Use to make a tasty tagine or as a rub for meat or meat substitutes, paticularly good for lamb and chicken. This spice is a medium to hot level of heat, adjust quantity used for a less spicy meal.

At Jethro’s we have years of experience of listening to our customers at food fayres and events and work on developing great tasting products made with premium ingredients. This philosophy is reflected in our spice blends.

If you don’t need to use all of the packet – it can be resealed to retain freshness using the strip seal at the top of the pack.

Recipe Suggestion:

Chicken Tagine (for 4 people) (Can also be made with Lamb)
• 4 chicken breasts, cut into large cubes
• 1 tbsp vegetable oil
• 1 onion, sliced
• 200ml water
• 100g dried apricots, chopped
• 50g sultanas
• 1 x 400g tin chopped tomatoes
• 1 x 400g tin chickpeas, rinsed, drained

Directions:

Sprinkle the Harissa mix over the diced chicken breasts in a bowl and mix to ensure they are well covered. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas4.
Heat the oil in the base of a tagine dish, or heavy-based casserole dish. Fry the chicken for 2-3 minutes. Remove from the dish using a slotted spoon and set aside. Fry the onion for five minutes, or until soft. Add the meat back to the dish, along with water, apricots, sultanas, tomatoes and chickpeas. Bring to the boil, cover with a fitted lid, place in the oven and cook for 1 hour or until the meat is cooked
Serve with couscous or rice.
Optional :Top with yoghurt, and sprinkle over 2 tbsp of chopped mint or parsley and 25g of chopped almonds.
